WHAT IS READING FIRST?
Reading First is a key
initiative of the federal No
Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
Grants are awarded to states. States award sub-grants to
school districts and schools to improve reading achievement
for students in grades K-3.
Funds are allocated for professional development, scientifically based instructional materials and programs, valid and reliable screening, diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments, accountability measures, and leadership structures.
