Reading First is a key
initiative of the federal No
Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
Grants are awarded to states. States award sub-grants to school districts and schools to improve reading achievement
for students in grades K-3.
Funds are allocated for professional development, scientifically based instructional materials and programs, valid and reliable screening, diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments, accountability measures, and leadership structures.
Reading First supports professional development to ensure that all K-3 teachers have the skills they need to teach effectively. read more
